Position Scarcity

Postby bost0067 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 6:07 am

hey grey i was hoping you could help me out a little bit on the topic of position scarcity.
unless i've missed it, you don't talk too much about it, so i don't really know your philosophy on it.

with my draft coming up,( i'm in a 14 team H2H, snake, offensive categories R, RBI, HR, SB, AVG., OPS, BB) i'm trying to get a feel for some of my strategy

fortunately, i got the #1 overall, so that makes my life easier and i'll be taking albert...unfortunately, it makes it tough in the sense that, as you talk about, i would love to have a top 1B and 3B, and that probably won't happen since zimmerman and even youkilis should be gone by my 2&3 picks...so i'll be targeting reynolds or alvarez in rounds 6/7

so what i'm wondering is, based on yahoo rankings and my 2 and 3 picks, i'm looking at OF studs such as kemp, holliday, upton, mccutchen, cruz, choo....i could easily take 2 of these studs and be looking pretty good with albert

or, in a situation like this would you say take a kinsler, uggla, or phillips who i could also get and pair one of them with one of these stud OF's? your rankings for these OF's are higher in the top 100, so does that mean take the higher ranked guys with my first couple picks? if i wait on those top 2B, then i'll obviously have to wait and grab a hill, kelly johnson, or raburn type later which wouldn't be terrible either

thanks for the help it's greatly appreciated

I would read a bit on his draft day pairings article:

That's a good starting point.

As for my personal opinion, if you don't get Tulo or Hanley, don't worry until Ian Desmond/Stephen Drew if you want someone that is reliable. If you miss those two, I would punt until Asdrubal Cabrera or Brignac rolls around.

If you can't land a top 2B, you should target Espinoza late.

If you miss Reynolds, go after Aramis or Alvarez (preferably Alvarez)

I absolutely hate catchers so I won't go into detail as to what I'd do about that.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
