Pitching is horrible -- need advice! HELP!!!

Postby jason20000 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 7:45 pm

You can see my pitching staff below -- my team ERA is currently 6.38, and my team WHIP is 1.60. I was just offered a trade for Matt Cain in exchange for Marmol and Fransworth. What's your take? I think I need more for Marmol given his stats last year. Cain is his top pitcher (after that, its Kuroda) Also, Shields and Harang are currently available in my league. Should I pick either / both up, and if so, who should I drop?

I'm in a 5x5 mixed standard roto league with 12 teams and 21 roster spots and 2 DL spots.

Here's my team:

1B = Dunn
2B = Brandon Phillips
3B = Wright
SS = Drew
C = Martin
OF = Carlos Gonzalez
OF = Jay Bruce
OF = Mike Stanton
Util = Chris Young
Bench = Lance Berkman

My pitchers:

Starters = Billingsley, Daniel Hudson, Ted Lilly, Phil Hughes, Kennedy, Travis Wood, Brandon Beachy, Jake Peavy (DL)
Relievers = Marmol, Hanrahan, Greg, Fanrsworth, Aardsma (DL)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Drop Hughes for any Padres SP and play them at home only. Reject the trade. Your pitching should do better. Hudson, Lilly, Bills, Wood, and even Kennedy/Beachy are good pitchers. If Cueto happens to be available, add him for Hughes then DL him for a Padres SP.

you Are a little weak at the starter position.
and Unfortunately you have some good pitchers that have gotten off to horrendous starts
Billingsly, Lilly and Hudson i think are will be alot better than what they have shown and you have a couple nice upside guys in Kennedy, Wood and Possibly Beachy. As for Hughes, i think he's on a collision course with arm surgery. I would definitely pick up Shields...(another nice start last night!) and Kuroda both....I would drop Hughes and Mabey Berkman...if you don't want to drop Lance, drop Beachy but i would Give him one more start...Grey IS right about him having really good stuff...As for the trade, i don't think you need it and you cannot part with two closers... especially Marmol.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with Larkfest.
You'll get much better and I certainly wouldn't trade away 2 closers.

Drop Hughes and grab Kuroda immediately (heck, Kuroda is the ace of my garbage pitching staff, no idea how he's available in a 12-teamer).

I like Shields, but I'm not totally sure I'd drop anyone on your roster for him. I own him too, but I'm not sure how many of his division foes I'd be starting him against. Absolutely not the Yankees or Sox. Probably not the Jays. Throw in the other AL teams (Rangers, White Sox) and his usefulness is limited, imo. If only he could pitch against the Rays.

Kuroda isn't a free agent -- he is on the team that is trying to trade with me for the two closers.

Someone just dropped Colby Lewis, and I have the #2 waiver priority, so I could get him if I want to (I didn't want to burn the #2 priority so early -- good players seem to get dropped in my league).

I guess the question is should I be giving up on Hughes and/or Beachy?
