Coupla questions

So much of fantasy baseball (especially baseball) is overcoming myths, emotions and other assorted biases. With that in mind, I'm wondering: 1) Is the sophomore slump a real and predictable phenomenon, or does it exist because every time we see a second year player struggle, an appealingly appropria...

Two RCL drafts yesterday

I went into the draft with intents of following last year's winning formula - all bats and closers, save for a couple of middling SPs. I stuck to that plan fairly well, but the problem was, so did everyone else. In the first league (RCL 3), Halladay went 12, but the next two pitchers, Kershaw and Ve...

Re: Questions re: Strasburg, Harper and the Nationals

Not getting Prince Fielder is key to my thoughts. Since they let him get away, I'm thinking that they aren't serious about making a playoff push. Or it could be that they just didn't want to overpay for a rotund, defensively-challenged first baseman whose 10-year contract could be about 5 years too...

Questions re: Strasburg, Harper and the Nationals

First off, thanks for the nice words about DC in your Harper post, Grey! Of course, the old joke is that there are 3 cities where "Trust me" can be directly translated to "Fuck you": DC, LA, and NYC. So we've got that in common. But as a budding Nats fan (finally giving up my lifelong affair with th...

Top 300 question

So Darvish and a few others make the cut, but for the most part it looks like many of the top prospects (Teheran, Trout, Harper, Bauer, among others) didn't make the cut. Am I crazy for thinking that many folks will have plenty of good reason to draft a few of these guys (and others) for their upside?

RCL top 3 league

If Grey allows it, I'd like to host a second RCL league composed of only teams that have finished in the top 3 of their league in previous years. If you're game, ping me at stark dot m at gmail; even if it isn't a RCL league, it'd probably be fun to do.

Re: RCLs 2012

I was thinking the same thing earlier today, but ended up thinking that the loss in fun from denying friends (and competitors) the opportunity to compete with each other is just giving up too much, with no guarantee of benefit. I mean, the alternative would be to pool all RCL entries and randomly as...

Re: How to handle off season trading in Keepers?

I don't understand the premise. Regarding the team with 4 "obvious" keepers and a 5th player that is the object of the trade... why would he do the deal? He literally get's nothing out of it, but strengthens a competitor. The problem we have in my keeper league is that it is an auction league and we...

Re: NFBC

Yeah, I get that they need to pay salaries, etc. But as a former programmer, I'm pretty sure there aren't more than a few bodies required. Virtually everything is automated, the same way our RCLs are. Moreover, they don't even allow trades, so there isn't even much of an need for a human "fairness m...

Has anyone else taken a gander at their operation? I don't know how they get anyone to play. Their online championship costs $350 per entry. They have it scheduled for 600 teams. Total costs ($350 * 600) = $210,000. They payout about 1/2 of that. The top ten teams (out of 600) are paid. $50K to firs...
