The Rank Railheads (RCL 40) stumbled and panthers_freak (We’ve Got the Runs — Baseball Reasons) pounced. The Railheads dropped 4 points to 110 and now sit 2 back of the new leaders in the overall standings, despite another superb week from their pitching staff. They used only 6 starts, and came away with a perfect 6 wins. Yovani Gallardo and Chris Sale each won 2, with Kris Medlen and David Price notching the other victories. Justin Verlander starred for We’ve Got the Runs with a win, 22 strikeouts, and an ERA of 0.60 and 1.13 WHIP. Chase Headley (.333/6 Runs/3 HR/11 RBI) and Michael Bourn (.375/6 Runs/6 RBI) led the offense.
captainpyper (RCL 3) moved into third with 106 points, followed by Pliny the Elder (Myrtle’s Acres), Team Beefcake (Fantasy Booze Cruise), and Bombo Rivera’s Prague Defenestrators (Conshellation Prize) at 105. NYC Matthole (Ones are GOOD, right?) jumped 10 positions to 7th, with 104 points. Rounding out the top 10 are Joba’s Trampoline (RCL 41), The Fugs (Epic Beardmen Division), and MattTruss223 (Rube Waddell’s Shiny Objects — Magnificent Mustachioed Men) , all with 103.
Muchacho’s team, the Beaverton Finger Puppets (Matthew Berry Is A Tool) made a big move this week, improving 137 positions to 260th. Hammerin’ Heyward (Dread Pirate Returns) jumped 126 spots to reach the top 100, finishing in 82nd place with 86 points.
The ECFBL had a slight increase in their competitive index to 104.5 after several weeks of holding steady. Hopefully this isn’t a sign that other leagues are losing interest as the season winds down.
Expert League: Dalton Del Don (RotoWire Del Don), enjoyed another fine week of pitching with an ERA of 1.54 and 0.80 WHIP to slip ahead of Ryan Carey (Mastersball Carey) by half a point. DDD finished the week with 7 wins, 9 saves, and 74 strikeouts, an ERA of 1.45 and 0.79 WHIP. Stephen Strasburg, Matt Moore, Jordan Zimmermann, Derek Holland, Jeff Samardzija, and Kyle Lohse were stellar, allowing a grand total of 28 baserunners in 39.2 innings. Only A.J. Burnett failed to give Triple D a good start. Tim Dierkes (P.F. Flyer) is 3rd, 4 points back. Rudy finished the week in 4th after his team hit just .228 with 9 home runs. Grey had a nice week and moved up to 6th, just 2 behind 5th place Scott Pianowski. The Razzball leader hit .270 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI. His pitching was even more impressive with an ERA of 2.77 and 0.94 WHIP.
Trades: As the deadline approached, 18 more deals were completed, to bring the final total for the season to 270 trades involving 872 players. That averages out to 5.6 trades per league, up slightly from last year’s 5.05, when the trade deadline was 2 weeks earlier. Of course, the ECFBL were the busiest traders, completing 36 swaps, followed by Epic Beardmen Division (21) and Magnificent Mustachioed Men (15). The Experts League saw 3 trades, while 5 leagues made none. Paulie Allnuts (Uncle Robbies Daffiness Boys) was the biggest wheeler-dealer, pulling off 13 trades.
The biggest trade of the week took place in the ECFBL, where the Silver Bullet Bandits sent Ryan Braun, Justin Verlander, and Kenley Jansen to Copales Charros for Desmond Jennings, Giancarlo Stanton, Joey Votto, Sergio Romo, and James Shields. In Magnificent Mustachioed Men, Sid Bream’s Cream traded Ian Kinsler and Drew Storen to Rube Waddell’s Shiny Objects for Will Middlebrooks, Josh Reddick, and Ernesto Frieri, and then immediately lost Middlebrooks to injury. Robinson Cano, Craig Kimbrel, David Price, Aroldis Chapman, Curtis Granderson, Joe Mauer, Jered Weaver, and Mark Teixeira were all among the traded before the deadline as teams tried to improve their chances of winning it all. Len’s Sakata (Soylent green is Allbright....) was the top offensive team, hitting .313 with 62 runs, 20 home runs, 66 RBI, and 6 stolen bases. Josh Hamilton (.455, 7 Runs, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB) was his old self again, while corner infielders Headley, Chris Johnson (2 HR/8 RBI), and Freddie Freeman (2 HR/9 RBI) provided nice power numbers. Jesus Montero, Erick Aybar, and Travis Snider all hit over .400 as Len’s Sakata moved up 92 spots to 117th in the overall standings.

Dickey, Mike Fiers, and David Price each won a game, and combined for a 1.35 ERA and 0.73 WHIP. Yu Darvish had a 6.08 ERA, but also added a victory and 17 Ks. Huston Street picked up 3 saves with 3 perfect innings before hitting the DL.
