Pitcher Heavy Mock Draft Results

Postby adamh » Mon Mar 09, 2009 2:23 pm

Just for shits and giggles, I have done 2 mock drafts recently where I just went completely overboard drafting pitchers. 12 team, 5x5. My starting team looks like this in the first one (I am projected tied for 3rd, 5 points out of first):

C Shoppach SP Johan
1B M. Cabrera SP Webb
2B Weeks SP Peavy
SS Hardy SP Hamels
3B C. Davis SP Liriano
OF Bruce RP BJ Ryan
OF Upton RP Kerry Wood
OF Tavares
Util C. Delgado

Is there something to be said for this strategy? I am projected for all 12's in the 4 pitching categories, with saves being a 7. My strategy for offense was to straight up punt average. Turned out, I ended up getting killed in avg., runs, and RBI's. But, even drafting your hitters real late, you can be near the top in HR's and in the middle of the pack for SB's. I did a second one with similar results, only this time I am projected for 1st place:

C Napol SP Johan
1B Howard SP Webb
2B Weeks SP CC
SS Tulowitzki SP Liriano
3B Aramis SP Garza
OF Dye RP Nathan
OF Hawpe RP BJ Ryan
OF Tavares
Util J. Upton

I didn't go quite as crazy at the beginning on pitchers, taking Howard in the first and Aramis in the 3rd. Is this only a bad strategy due to the injury risk that pitchers pose?

I hate owning Taveras. He's such a drain. You think he's exactly what you need to be good on steals, but he ends up killing you elsewhere. Your pitching is too heavy for both teams. You don't need to turn your pitching stats to 12 to win. If you average 7s across the board, you should be in good shape. If you were to have just Johan, Liriano and Garza, you might be fine for pitching, then throwing in Peavy or Webb or CC is overkill.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.
There's more than one player with the same last name? Then spell out who you're talking about.
Thanks!
