12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
There are 13 owners, so I have pick, bookends, then pick again. Great site BTW--just stumbled upon it. I think Rollins, Tex, Howard, Kinsler will be there. Who to draft first? Leaning toward Rollins, but would love to get input. If I take Rollins and bookend takes 1Bs, is Kinsler a good play to set up MI? Is Utley even in the discussion if he's still there? Am I missing someone at 15? Any help would be appreciated.

If Howard is still available then he's probably your first pick... then maybe Kinsler on the 2nd. Though Others might take Utley before Kinsler. Re: 12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
Howard is easily the first pick.
I'm be very tempted to go with someone like Lincecum or Santana with the other, though I'd probably be better off taking another power hitter. I don't like taking either Kinsler or Rollins that early, especially the slightly oldish Rollins.

Re: 12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
I agree Howard should be your first pick if available if not take Big Tex. Little less power but a bunch more average.
I think Utley will be ready for the start of the season and he should be your second pick. Remember back just two seasons ago when Utley broke his hand getting hitting by a pitch from some Nationals pitcher and was back hitting the cover off the ball in just 4 weeks? He was on fire for the final month of the season to help knock the Mets out of the playoffs.
The only bad thing about owning Howard and Utley is they play on the same team but who cares it isn't like that team is Seattle.

Great point by redmann, don't even think about taking Kinsler if Utley's on the board. Utley's still the #1 2b, despite the injury. The only thing that can bring Utley down is kryptonite and kryptonite is banned by MLB.
Kinsler and Rollins may be gone anyway if you're in a Yahoo league. Here's the Yahoo "experts" 12 team mock draft, 1st round.
Hanram
A Rod
Pujols
Reyes
Wright
Braun
Sizemore
Hamilton
Miggy
Kinsler
Rollins
Tex at #12
Check Grey's top 10 overall, you'll find it interesting. Unless your leaguemates are getting good content like we Razzballers, these will be available....
Tex, Howard, Utley, Santana, Lincecum.
You're in a great position, come to think of it, I want pick 12........
The only position I like better is "downward facing dog."

The best way to use the yahoo "Experts" is to do the opposite of what ever they do I think there fantasy baseball big board proves this the bestKinsler and Rollins may be gone anyway if you're in a Yahoo league. Here's the Yahoo "experts" 12 team mock draft, 1st round."

Re: 12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
thanks for the advice all. i guess i've just always something against drafting a power hitting 1B in first round when there are many available. and howard's average does scare the crap out of me. grey and others on site say not to take pitching high, but with johan's bullpen improvement and new spacious yard, he seems hard to pass up as well. is howard's potentially low average not enough of a deterrent to steer away from him?

Re: 12th pick in 5x5 roto draft
He can't possibly hit .251 again, he was much better averagewise in the second half last year. I don't know the exact numbers, not a big numbers guy, but he's a notoriously slow starter. Remember, he was hitting just .181 as late as May something last year. Maybe even June. I remember that because the guy who had him in my league changed his team name to .181 and kept it that way all year.thanks for the advice all. i guess i've just always something against drafting a power hitting 1B in first round when there are many available. and howard's average does scare the crap out of me. grey and others on site say not to take pitching high, but with johan's bullpen improvement and new spacious yard, he seems hard to pass up as well. is howard's potentially low average not enough of a deterrent to steer away from him?
You can always draft a Loney or a Cojack late and plug them in at CI to hedge against Howard, but I think he'll hit his normal .270 this year which can't hurt you with the other stats he gives you. 50, 140-150 is much better than Tex's 35, 110-130. Average can be easy to overcome, power numbers, not so much.
Johan would be a good pick, but not if Utley's there.
