Slocemb had a great draft, and still roster 21 of the 25 players they selected, including Joey Votto (10), Jose Bautista (15), Adam Jones (34), Manny Machado (135), Jean Segura (231), Domonic Brown (274), and Shelby Miller (289). Miller, Jordan Zimmermann, and Max Scherzer anchor a pitching staff that features an ERA of 3.00 and 1.01 WHIP. Movers and Shakers: Vas Deferens (Smoke Em If Ya Got Em) gained over 10 points and moved up 153 positions to 397th this week.Trailer Trash Talkers (Champions League) and The Fuzz (You Say Potato, I Say Schmotato) continued long streaks of improvement. TTT moved up 93 spots this week, their 9th consecutive gain that has seen them go from 744th to 404th. The Fuzz jumped 127 positions to 327th, their 8th straight gain since sitting in 698th place on May 6th.
Free Agents: Brad Miller was scooped up in 34 leagues after he stole a base in each of his first two games, with Seattle’s alternative at shortstop being Brendan Ryan. Erasmo Ramirez was added in another 12 leagues, leaving him available in 28. Rajai Davis (26 to 60) and Tony Cingrani (39 to 56) saw increases in ownership as Melky Cabrera and Johnny Cueto went to the DL. Adam Eaton is owned in 25 leagues now, as he progresses slowly to a return to Arizona. Andrelton Simmons was dropped in 12 leagues this week as he continued to struggle.
League News: The ECFBL and Cougars Welcomed continue to top the RCL with a League Competitive Index of 105. The East Coast League has 3 teams in the top 100; CW have 2. Ones are GOOD right? have 4 in the top 100; International Razzball have 4 in the top 66. Cougars Welcomed are in the top 10 of 8 statistical categories, leading 3, having overtaken the ECFBL in home runs. The ECFBL continues to lead 6 categories.
EXPERTS: Rudy’s reign atop the standings is over after two weeks as Dr. Roto slipped past him into first for the first time this season. Team Roto was one of six teams with an ERA under 3 for the week (2.96), and had a league-leading 0.82 WHIP. Rudy got a couple nice streams Saturday from Joe Blanton and Dillon Gee (2 Wins/10 K/2.08/1.08), but his cautious approach left 2 shutouts on the bench (Justin Masterson @ WS; Derek Holland @ NYY). Of course, his discretion also meant he missed Masterson’s 6-run game at Baltimore earlier in the week. Bret Sayre (Baseball Prospectus) had a great week statistically, though it failed to translate to a gain in the standings. He led the league in runs (58), home runs (20), RBI (50), and saves (11), though he was hurt by a 4.24 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Grey saved me from having the worst ERA (6.61) in the whole RCL this week. Thanks, man! His 7.87 ERA and 1.97 WHIP raised his ratios from 3.70/1.22 to 4.01/1.28. Hey, you’re still better than me for the season (4.22/1.35). Oh, wait, that’s nothing to brag about. Writers: Well, the inevitable has happened. The all-powerful and humble Tehol Beddict has taken over first place after recording league bests in runs, home runs, RBI, steals, and wins this week. Andrew Nordmeier dropped to second for the first time in over 2 months, despite a fine offensive week and pitching ratios of 2.25 and 0.98. Those numbers were second only to Slim Smitty’s 2.23 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. Once again Andrew was weak in pitching decisions, with just 2 wins and no saves. Check out all the writers’ week 13 stats.
Trades: 23 more trades this week involving 72 players to run the totals for the year to 275 trades of 869 players. There was also controversy in the ECFBL as 4 trades were vetoed, touched off by Simply Fred trading Matt Holliday and Edward Mujica to AL KOHOLIC for Domonic Brown and Brett Cecil. Five trades were processed in the league, with Fred dealing Pablo Sandoval, Billy Butler, and Ben Revere for Kevin Gregg, Mark Melancon, and Ike Davis in three of them. Besides Ben Revere, Al also acquired Jose Fernandez (for Jed Lowrie) and Clayton Kershaw (for Jacoby Ellsbury). In Original Recipe, Al also dealt Prince Fielder and Josh Reddick to New Zealand Steve for Adam Lind, Nelson Cruz, and Tom Wilhelmsen. Justin Verlander was traded 3 times: with Matt Kemp for Paul Goldschmidt; with Wil Myers for Jean Segura and Michael Cuddyer; and with Mat Latos for Matt Kemp and Dustin Pedroia. Limits and Pace: As we hit the midway point in the season, just a reminder there is a game started limit of 180. There are 153 teams that have used 110 or more starts. It is not a big problem to reach 180 early, though it may mean you will miss out on some late season starts from your ace. You will continue to accrue stats from your relief pitchers when you have used up all your starts. There is also a 1000-inning minimum for your pitching staff. If you fail to reach that number, you will be put to last in the ERA and WHIP categories. There are only 7 teams currently off this pace, including Podcast Nick Capozzi in the Writers’ league. Jason Kipnis and, of course, Miguel Cabrera paced the attack, driving the Eh Team into the top 10 overall. Kipnis hit .478 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI; Miggy, .417 with 5 home runs and 7 RBI. Ian Desmond, Josh Donaldson, and Allen Craig also hit 3 homers apiece.

For the second week in a row Chris Davis hit 4 home runs and drove in 10 runs to lead the offense, while Jose Bautista added 7 RBI on three homers, and even stole a base. Billy Butler (.435/5 RBI), Starling Marte (.389/4 SB), and Nick Franklin (.350/2 SB) were also key contributors. Madison Bumgarner led the pitching staff, allowing 3 runs and 13 baserunners while striking out 10 in 14 innings. Francisco Liriano had 6 Ks in his victory, surrendering one run in 6 innings.
