advice going forward

I came into this season thinking I had a team that could compete with anyone, but 6 weeks into the season, I’m in 7th.

It’s an 11 team roto pts league. Here’s the scoring:

Batters Stat Category Value
At Bats (AB) -1
Hits (H) 5.6
Doubles (2B) 2.9
Triples (3B) 5.7
Home Runs (HR) 9.4
Stolen Bases (SB) 1.9
Caught Stealing (CS) -2.8
Walks (BB) 3.0
Hit By Pitch (HBP) 3.0
Pitchers Stat Category Value
Innings Pitched (IP) 7.4
Saves (SV) 5
Hits (H) -2.6
Home Runs (HR) -12.3
Walks (BB) -3
Hit Batters (HBP) -3
Strikeouts (K) 2
Holds (HLD) 4

Here’s the team:

C - Garver
1B - Abreu
2B - Chavis
SS - Mondesi
3B - Vlad
MI - R. Rodriguez
LF - Hoskins
RF - Piscotty
CF - Acuna
OF - Benintendi
OF - Laureano
Util - Merrifield
BN - Tapia, M. Gonzalez, Tatis, Kirilloff, B. Rodgers, L. Urias, N. Lopez
IL - Altuve

SP - deGrom, P. Lopez, C. Smith, T. Richards
RP - J. James, Stripling, W. smith, Romo, Neris, Vazquez, Gaviglio
IL - Kluber

What are your thoughts on this team? I opted for the long inning RP pitchers approach with some starters. I’m 565 points from 1st, where an average day would net a team about 100 points. Which would mean I’d need to outsider everyone most nights. I don’t want to give up early, but I have some valuable expiring contracts in Hoskins, Benintendi and deGrom/Kluber.

Any suggestions?

Kluber is not going to get you anything this year; maybe you can trade him, but I doubt it... deGrom is expiring? Then trade him and try to get younger -- just bc you trade a top arm doesn't mean you're giving up... If you would've trade deGrom for Paddack, you would've gotten younger and been doing as well if not better (just one example)

Thanks for the reply. Here are my expiring pieces:

Kluber, deGrom, Benintendi, Whit, Hoskins. Vazquez, Abreu, Altuve.

I’ve been offered Segura for Whit. But Segura is $32 which seems expensive. What I think I’ll do is look for younger talent, like you said, and for those players who are around $1 each. Paddack is $1 on a team so perhaps a deal there could be had.

Do these deals get the Grey Approval Rating? I’m thinking of proposing these.

A) I get Alonso and C. Hernandez I give Altuve
B) I get Paddack and F. Reyes I give deGrom and Laureano.
C) I get Straham I give Kluber and T. Richards
D) I get Verdugo I give Vazquez and R. Rodriguez
E) I get Buehler and G. Torres I give Hoskins and Benintendi
F) I get McNeil I give Abreu

All players that would come to me, minus $11 Straham, are $1 each for the next 2 years after this season.

C sounds okay, none sound great for you

Haha glad I didn’t send them out then.

If you don’t mind I’ll come up with other deals later on and ask here. Again though look for cheaper longer term contract people.

Thanks for the advice.

How about these deals?

I get Paddack, F. Reyes I trade Hoskins
I get Alonso, C. Hernandez I trade Abreu, Laureano
I get G. Torres and Beuhler I trade deGrom
I get Bieber, Eloy I trade Altuve
I get Verdugo I trade Benintendi

All are $1x2 or $1x3 coming my way. Though I feel like you’ll say no too, meaning I’m not grasping this concept 🧐🧐🧐
