Hunter Pence

Postby Hommocker » Thu Mar 26, 2009 6:33 am

I kind of lucked into Pence in my draft (I got him at #122 in a 10 teamer). I hadn't planned on taking him, but thought it was great value at that point. He's behind Kemp, Bruce, and Ibanez on my team (we start just 3 OFers).

Anyways, I kind of have a good feeling about him. Dare I say a big breakout is coming? He's starting his 3rd year and it looks like he may hit 5th in the lineup (please, no Tejada!!). Here's Bill James projections:

.294, 29 HRs, 100 RBI, 91 runs, 13 SBs. Obviously a bit optimistic. What's everyone feel about him this year?

I think you're probably right in thinking those numbers are a bit optimistic. I think he'll hit about .280 and have 25 HR's or a few more. I don't see him scoring 91 runs unless they bat him second (which they won't). He's not going to have anyone in the lineup behind him that will knock him in at that rate. Still, at #122 that seems like a good value.
