My First Draft...

It was exciting to participate in my first live draft last night after many mocks.

I'm somewhat satisfied, though my team will admittedly have issues with batting average and potentially and ERA. Also, I'm probably looking at middle of the pack in steals. Nothing that a few moves on the wire can't solve. BTW, this is a h2h, 12 team 6x6 league that I'm doing for fun as my lone h2h league, where SAGNOF is spelled F-U-N!

1. (8) Ryan Howard 1B
2. (17) Chase Utley 2B
3. (32) Matt Kemp OF
4. (41) Carlos Quentin OF
5. (56) Alexei Ramírez 2B,SS,OF
6. (65) Shane Victorino OF
7. (80) Chad Billingsley SP
8. (89) John Lackey SP
9. (104) Yovani Gallardo SP
10. (113) Jonathan Broxton RP
11. (128) Chris Iannetta C
12. (137) Joey Votto 1B
13. (152) Aaron Harang SP
14. (161) Alex Gordon 3B
15. (176) Jered Weaver SP
16. (185) Chad Qualls RP
17. (200) Joey Devine RP
18. (209) Frank Francisco RP
19. (224) Hiroki Kuroda SP
20. (233) Chris Carpenter SP

I already dropped Kuroda per Grey's advice and picked up Dukes. There are lots of others on the wire of note:
Konerko, Butler, J. Sanchez, Carmona, Kawakami, Volstad, Chris Perez, Brandon Lyon, Ziegler and of course, Dallas McPherson. My instincts tell me that Lyon is more likely to have a long term shot at the closer role than is Lyon.

Was this Yahoo or ESPN?

Votto at 137? How did you manage that?

Yahoo... I nearly wet myself when I saw that he was still on the board, and went outside of my comfort zone and took the value there. I might end up trading him mid season depending on my needs.

edit: I think this is one of the reasons I'm not entirely sold on my pitching staff.

Drafting on Yahoo can be crazy. I got Votto in round 11 earlier today and in the same draft got Damon at the END of round 16!! In this same "draft" Derrek Lee went in round 5.

1. I know that Philly's offense is the bee's knees, but I dunno that I want Victorino, Howard, and Utley on the same team, especially in an H2H format.

2. I think you were a little early on Kemp (he's safely fallen to the fourth in every draft I've been a part of), but you cured that by picking up Quentin in the fourth.

3. Gallardo at 104 is a bit early too. Grey has him somewhere close to 130 and we know that he is a little gay for Gallardo.

4. Not sure how I feel about Iannetta that early, but if you are going to try to snipe a top catcher, then much better there as compared to Soto and above before the 7th.

5. Grey is right that you needed another bat for Kuroda. Dukes should fit nicely with your power/speed OF.

6. Ridiculous pull on Votto that late. If you were able to have him queued up for round after round and let him slide until 137 that is a major feat of fortitude.

Can you give me the first two rounds? I've seen Utley falling to the second round, anywhere from pick 15 to 23. I'm having a hard time believing that, even with the injury.
