Alfonso Soriano, LF, Chicago Cubs Wednesday 6/11, 8:03 PM CT
Alfonso Soriano was hit by a pitch square on the left hand, and he is currently en route to the hospital for x-rays, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: This did not look good. It would be awfully surprising if Soriano didn't break some bone in his hand as he took the pitch right off it. It would help if Soriano learned to turn his back to the inside pitch to shield his hands, but most major leaguers have forgotten that is how you take inside pitches, which is why so many end up with injured hands.

Oh, Oh, not good for Soriano owners.

Whoa Whoa... I love in Chicago and saw it. It didn't look horrible, and predicting a DL stint is a little premature don't you think.

Fractured metacarpal bone is what they just said on ESPN. Out at least 6 weeks.

Don't know what the heck a metacarpal is but I don't wanna take a fastball off it.

Putz, Alf, I'm pretty sure if the Braves had a save chance Raffy's arm would fall off.

So are the Cubbies going to go with Reed Johnson in the outfield? Or will they stick with the solution for tonight: DeRosa in the OF, and Mike Fontenont at 2B?

This is from bleedcubbieblue.com today:
Will it be Matt Murton, who could start in LF? Will it be Eric Patterson, who can play several positions and hits lefthanded? It could, I suppose, be someone like Josh Kroeger, who also hits lefthanded and could play left field and who, unlike Murton, has actually shown some power at Iowa this year (.483 SLG to Murton's .395), and Lou seems to crave lefthanded power. Kroeger, however, is not on the 40-man roster and it's full right now, so someone would have to be let go (why is Jake Fox still on the 40-man?). Or how about... Felix Pie?

My suspicion is that the Cubs will fill from within for now -- they could, from time to time, as they did last night, put Mike Fontenot at 2B and Mark DeRosa in LF, which also happened ten times when Soriano was out with his leg problems in April (the Cubs went 8-4 with DeRosa as their starting LF). They could also play Reed Johnson in LF with Jim Edmonds in CF, if necessary.
I shudder at that last one, but if either Pie or Patterson (yup Corey's brother) is called up, they're both still absolutely worthless in fantasy. Patterson has an atrocious OBP much like big bro, and Pie was still struggling mightily in AAA, working on a new approach at the plate, shortening his swing.

My money's on Murton and Hoffpauir.
