Start or Not Start?

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Start or Not Start?

Postby jitkis » Sun May 16, 2010 11:05 pm

Slowey @ TOR?
Wandy @ LAD?
The league counts Ls along with the 5 standard categories. I'm leaning towards no with Slowey and yes with Wandy, but wouldn't mind some advice - thanks!

I'd say no for both...But Wandy isn't too bad of a start vs an unproven Ely; however the dodgers are streaking so keep that in mind too.

I think both are ok, Wandy is better.

Wandy is good - LA has bad numbers against lefties, plus Ethier is out and will be replaced by someone who sucks. Of current Dodgers hitters, only Russell Martin and Ronnie Belliard have good numbers against Wandy. They might not score, but he'll give you good ratios, some K and a fighting chance at the W.

Yeah, I'm more worried about Slowey to be honest. Last time out he was cruising for like 4 innings and then imploded. Plus, career numbers against Toronto are terrible, although obviously it's different players from year to year, so doesn't necessarily mean much. Also, I have Slowey in 2 leagues (H2H and roto), so it's an even bigger question with him.

Wandy, but not strongly suggesting it.

Wandy is just not right this year. He'll be riding my bench, regardless of matchup, until he can put together 2 quality starts in a row. So disappointing.

Similar result as last time so far - one bad inning (the 1st) and the 5 after that - 1.00 whip and 1 ER. His strikeouts are completely gone though, that's the really scary part. Guy was supposed to try for 200 Ks this year...

Yeah I just saw that Yahoo was slow to credit 3 of his runs as unearned. I guess that gives him a little bit of a reprieve, but the lineup the Dodgers threw out there wasn't exactly scary and the K numbers are starting to concern me. The only matchup that I think would be a no-brainer to start him would be the Astros, which would unfortunately be against league policy. Still crossing my fingers that he finds and fixes some minor mechanical hitch and mows through the summer months at a <3.00 ERA with that old ~8.5 K/9.
