Drop Mayberry?

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Drop Mayberry?

Postby FillyP » Wed Apr 04, 2012 12:17 pm

I know the conventional play would be to wait and see how the first few weeks of the season unfolds. Mayberry had a dreadful spring and reports out of Phillies camp are conflicting - one says they're high on Juan Pierre and he'll prob get the most burn in LF. The other, is Cholly saying that Mayberry will get an opportunity to play "regularly" (whatever the hell that means) this year.

I'm considering dropping Mayberry, adding Carp, slotting him in the DL and picking up Cozart. Good move? Team in sig.

If it's a weekly league, you could go with Cozart. In daily leagues, I'd stick with Mayberry. He'll be in the lineup pretty much everyday in LF or 1B (while Howard's out). He crushes lefties and will only sit against tough righties when the Phils want to get Thome and Nix/Pierre in the lineup.

Daily league, and thanks for the advice!

A few things make me skeptical about Mayberry. Vic and Pence have CF/RF locked up, barring injury. Organization seems high on Pierre - he hits for high AVG, OBP is stellar against lefties, and he's only two years removed from a 68 steal season.

Also, let's not forget about Wigginton who should get some play at 1B. In fact, Mayberry has been out of the starting lineup 5 out of the last 8 spring games. But here's to hoping the kid gets a shot and he brings the lumber!

I didn't forget about Wiggy. Mayberry will be in the lineup whenever the Phils face a lefty. The only thing I'd be worried about is if he starts off slow and they lose patience and put him in a strict platoon. I think the team knows that Pierre isn't an everyday player anymore (hopefully). I've seen Mayberry quite a bit and I think he could be this year's Morse if given the chance. Cozart has an everyday gig and some upside though, so I could understand going with him. Good luck.
