Uggla vs. Kendrick vs. Cuddyer choice and prediction

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Uggla vs. Kendrick vs. Cuddyer choice and prediction

Postby papasmurf » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:21 pm

In my 16 keeper league, I was targetting a 2b with my first pick and I had all three guys to choose from.

Almost all consensus (in fact, all that I can recall seeing) rank Uggla above the other two, but I decided to pass because my keepers have good power already with suspect average. But I def see the value of the superior power from 2b.

.250 85 30 85 3

I settled on Cuddyer because I think I can count on at least .270 and 20 HR, and if he chips in 10 steals, that's not so different than 30 homers and 3 steals from Uggla in terms of HR+SB. Depending on how the Coors factor plays out, Cud can do slightly better. But if he slows down to 5 steals given his age, then I'd feel stupid. I do think Uggla will be superior in RBI and R by perhaps 10-15 each.

.270 70 20 80 10 (Assuming he hits 6th.)

Kendrick may hit in front of Pujols which is great but I just don't think his upside is really that great. I almost ate my hat last year when he had that slammin' start in APR but I made a less than 20 homer bet and actually won some money from a friend.

.290 90 15 60 15

I also went with Cuddyer because he actually plays in the OF, which leaves him less susceptible to injuries. I just feel like Kendrick is gonna miss some time this year (may just be smurf paranoia).

A parting note, if Uggla repeats his pattern of good and bad BA years, then he might actually hit .280 with 100 RBI and make me feel plenty stupid.

Uggla's track record for power makes him the choice over Cuddyer...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.
There's more than one player with the same last name? Then spell out who you're talking about.
Thanks!

And Uggla in the 2nd year of his contract so he'll be more relaxed while Cuddyer may press to justify the money he got...

Hm, more the reason I should have taken Uggla now.

Uggla was signed to be 'the man'; Cuddyer wasn't. I still think Uggla is the right choice, but I don't see a slip from Cuddyer this year due a contract. Maybe a struggle by switching leagues is possible, but I still think he's fine to do what he does.
