Re: 3B getting better?

I think Beltre puts up 27 HR vs Wright's 23 HR, but Wright has the better batting average and throws in 10+ stolen bases over Beltre. Ergo, I would probably grab Wright before Beltre. Huh, I just checked Grey's numbers and he gave 28 vs 24 HR and 3 vs 15 SB. That is close enough to my own statement...

Re: 3B getting better?

In my mock drafts this year I find Beltre is usually best available in the third round of a 10-team or 12-team mixed league. Theoretically Wright is still available then, but I haven't seen him. I am not crazy about Teixeira and the SPs available are also too expensive at that price. That leaves Br...

Re: 3B getting better?

Kinda missing the point, IMO. It's not JUST that he's 33...it's that he's 33 in that sweltering Texas heat, playing a physically demanding position. And as far as "just a hamstring strain"... its not uncommon for players to have recurring hammy issues once they injure them. I'm not missing the poin...

Re: Strategy Question II

The crux here, though, is the discount associated with a bad BA. You've said you're ok with drafting BJ Upton because he's a 4-cat star in the 4th or 5th round but Reynolds 4-cats last year compared to Beltre were how different? Again, Reynolds is going in the 10th and Beltre is going in the 3rd. T...

Re: Fielder's Affect on Miguel Cabrera

Bourne, I strongly disagree with you. I live in Detroit and also watch every game. I give most of the credit to Dombrowski and Ilitch but Leyland has done a fantastic job during his tenure. Yes, he does manage off a hunch frequently but his success rate is high. Look for a big year from Jackson and...

Re: Strategy Question II

Agree you don't ignore BA in the early rounds. By the 4th or 5th round, you can still see guys like Hunter Pence or Shin-So Choo. But you're also going to see guys like a BJ Upton. Do I want either Pence or Shin-So before I take Upton? Probably, but BJ is probably going to be discounted because he ...

Re: Strategy Question II

First off, I never said people weren't going to hit for a better average than Reynolds. Heck, even Carl Crawford had a better BA than Reynolds last year. A huge part of Crawford's value is based on his BA and his SB. A huge part of Reynolds value is in his HRs. One guy goes in the 2nd round while t...

Re: Strategy Question II

Ba is less important in roto. A Ba guy will get on base more and be more consistent week to week.
This doesn't make any sense. ALL of the 10 categories are equally important.

Unless you're in the habit of punting categories, which CAN work, but it decreases your margin for error (and bad luck).

Re: Bad News Bears

I love Major League. I haven't seen Mr. Baseball in 20 years, but I remember liking it when I saw it as a younger human being. I didn't like the Natural because it was unnatural. I hate when baseball (or sports) stray from reality, it loses me. My love for Albert Brooks is deep, and he is awesome i...
