Re: 3B getting better?

I would also counter that Beltre is 33 and going down from his prime while Zimmerman is only entering his prime. I seriously don't understand this logic. Beltre just had the best two years of his career (discounting that weird 2004 season which seems like a total outlier at this point) and yet ever...

Re: Have a bad feeling about the Philly's offense this year

I guess you would have to compare WAR from 2011 to expected WAR for 2012. However, I doubt the Phillies win 102 games again. 90-93? Sure. 95-97? Maybe.
I think this is spot-on, Chris.

Re: Have a bad feeling about the Philly's offense this year

Ah, that's very true. Though at this point, I'm still seeing a San Fran vs D-Backs division with an edge going to San Fran if they can get full and productive years out of Belt and Posey. It'll be interesting to see who gets in on the Wright sweepstakes. Though I look at the other team in NY with t...

Re: Have a bad feeling about the Philly's offense this year

The Braves have some injury risks with Hanson and Jurrjens, but they can lose both for the season and still have highly talented pitchers replace them and possibly pitch just as well. That seems a bridge too far, especially in Hanson's case. He's a fairly elite pitcher. I doubt one of those younger...

Re: 3B getting better?

I was originally going to just compare Zimmerman and Beltre, but I thought all the top 3b (minus Lawrie who lacks data) would be more fun and present a better picture. Crunching Numbers: (based on bbref.com) Upcoming age and last three years' totals listed in Grey's order. Bautista: 31, 1418 ab, 26...

Re: 3B getting better?

I give up dude. There's no discussion with you. Nobody's points against your Beltre projection mean a thing to you, so I'm not sure why you're even bothering to discuss it on forum. Your mind is clearly made up, and there is no discussing Beltre with you...so I'll stop wasting my time here. You're ...

Re: 3B getting better?

Funny, I just found this article that was written in January 2011 by one of the FanGraphs guys and he basically makes my case for me... except with actual statistics and all! :) Also, since this was 2011, this guy wrote this article BEFORE Beltre's great season last year in Texas. Pretty impressive....

Re: 3B getting better?

"Yes. The Nats will be good." That is me quoting Grey. What's "good" though? .500? They were 80-81 last year. How many games does having Gio, Strasburg and EJack buy them? No major additions to the lineup other than *maybe* having Zimmerman for 600 ABs. You figure Werth will improve on his 2010. Bu...

Re: 3B getting better?

"Yes. The Nats will be good." That is me quoting Grey. I am taking Zimmerman in the third, maybe 4th. And running away with the upside of second best 3rd baseman after cabrera. Here is my problem with beltre. If you get 27 hr, .280 avg, in the second round, you get to watch two teams who got that f...

Re: 3B getting better?

Beltre has had more full seasons with a Batting Average under .260 (2002, 2003, 2005) than a Batting Average over .300 (2004, 2010). He's had good seasons the past two years, but he has been in the end of his his prime, and, more importantly, right in his power prime. As people have already said, u...
